EUNIS 2014 Congress: 11-13 June, Umeå

EUNIS 2014 Congress will be held on 11th-13th of June in Umeå, Sweden.

The Congress welcomes IT-professionals, teachers and researchers with an interest on how IT can be utilized for education, research and administration.

The theme for the Congress is “Higher education in the digital era”. The programme is divided into distinct tracks:

  • supporting teaching and learning;
  • university management – BI;
  • the CIO and IT management;
  • software development;
  • university cooperation;
  • security.

Among the internationally renowned speakers that will contribute at the event there is: Gerry Pennell (CIO Manchester University), Michiel Boreel (CTO Sogeti) and Eden Dahlstrom (Director of Research at Educause). A detailed programme and a list of all invited speakers can be found at: EUNIS 2014. As always a large part of the programme is composed of contributions from the attendees themselves. In total over 100 speakers will present their insights and experiences at the congress.

EUNIS eLTF workshop was held at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona on 28th-29th of April 2014.  The theme was: New models of learning and accreditation.

Among the topics discussed  there were:

  • the future of MOOCs;
  • social learning in an online environment;
  • learning analytics;
  • assessing online learning.

Open Education Europa: a special issue of the eLearning Papers

Experiences and best practices in and around MOOCs by Open Education Europa

eLearning Papers is a digital publication on eLearning by openeducationeuropa.eu, a portal created by the European Commission to promote the use of ICT in education and training.

This special issue of the eLearning Papers is based on the contributions made to the EMOOCS 2014 conference. Its success demonstrates that MOOCs are at the beginning of a wave and a first step towards opening up education.

What are the defining characteristics of a MOOC? Can we categorically differentiate a MOOC from other types of online courses? This is one of the central questions of the debate on the future of MOOCs. An UNED study proposes a quality model based on both course structure and certification process. Most of the debate around the future of MOOCs focuses on learners’ attitudes such as attrition or a lack of satisfaction that leads to disengagement or dropout.

European Organization for International Research Information (euroCRIS) and the Institute for Research on Population and Social Policies of the National Research Council (CNR-IRPPS) invite you to the 12th International Conference of Current Research Information Systems (CRIS 2014) – in Rome, May 13th – 15th, 2014.

CRIS 2014 is the twelfth edition of the biennial series of conferences on Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) organised since 2002 by euroCRIS, a professional association of CRIS experts and custodian of the Common European Research Information Format CERIF.

The purpose of CRIS 2014 is to discuss recent trends in the management, availability, quality and use of research information in the context of e-Science bringing together researchers, managers of research-performing or funding institutions, evaluators, librarians, ICT experts and policy makers.
