It is with great sadness that we share the news that our valued friend and colleague, Andrew Cormack, passed away on 11 April.
Andrew served as Chief Regulatory Adviser to Jisc. Prior to that he was Head of CERT for the UK’s National Research and Education Network (Janet) from 1999.
He was an erudite colleague (holding degrees in mathematics, humanities and law) working across all aspects of legal and policy issues relating to networked services and education. His breadth of knowledge meant he had a close working relationship with many of our special interest groups (SIGs). He was a respected and valued contributor to our Information Security and Cloud SIGs and was able to bring his knowledge to bear on subjects such as learning analytics and assessment practice in support of our Learning and Teaching SIG.
It was always a pleasure to work with Andrew and he was generous in giving of his time and wisdom to support others. He was able to address dry and complex subjects in a way that engaged the audience, making him a popular keynote speaker at EUNIS events, where his insight and pragmatism were greatly appreciated. He helped us celebrate our 25th birthday with a keynote in Paris in 2018 and ushered us into a new era by giving the opening keynote at our first ever fully online Congress, virtual Helsinki in 2020.
Andrew will be greatly missed by the EUNIS community and our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to his family.
