WHAT IS EUNIS?

Now more than 100 members

The European University Information Systems association (EUNIS) cordially invites every Higher Education, Research Institution and Educational Organisation within Europe to become a Member of EUNIS in its own right.

EUNIS was founded in 1993 with the following objectives:

  • To encourage communication, collaboration and co-operation between those responsible for information systems in higher education and research institutions and organisations in Europe
  • To liaise with the major suppliers in this field and represent the interests of higher education
  • To liaise with organisations setting the strategic agenda for information systems in higher education and research at national and European level

There are active members in more than 20 European countries.

What does EUNIS do?

The main EUNIS activity is its annual conference. The twelfth EUNIS Conference took place in Tartu, Estonia in June 2006. Previous conferences have been held in Düsseldorf, Manchester, Grenoble, Prague, Helsinki, Poznan, Berlin, Porto,  Amsterdam, Bled (Ljubljana),  and Manchester . For the next few years conferences are planned for Grenoble, Aarhus, Santiago de Compostela and Warsaw. These events are always very well attended, by up to 400 delegates from more than 30 countries. Immediately before each Conference EUNIS organises a day of seminars and tutorials which many delegates attend.

EUNIS has organised several special events in recent years. In November 2003 and March 2006 very successful seminars were held to discuss high-level IT strategic issues with approximately 50 Rectors/Presidents/Vice-Chancellors and deputies in attendance at each event. These events were generously sponsored by our Corporate members including SAP, Sungard (formerly SCT), SUN Microsystems and WebCT. In 2000 there was Corporate Workshop to enable the Corporate members of EUNIS to understand the particular requirements of higher education. The workshop was especially useful to identify variations between different countries' needs, as well as highlighting common requirements which were independent of national boundaries. EUNIS intends to organise these special events more frequently in future. More information in the Events and Resources sections.

Other EUNIS activities include an annual Award for Excellence ,  a web site, mail lists, exchange programmes, and publications. Visit the EUNIS web site for more information and newsletters.
